Man, in a functioning society this would almost be straight to jail behavior. I say almost because there would be a brief stop to permanently strip this man of his medical license, and a second stop in civil court to convert his net worth to a negative number.
redczar•9mo ago
Unfortunately many have to suffer before the masses wake up from their drunken stupor of stupidity. Americans need to relearn what it means to live in a society.
EA-3167•9mo ago
Depending on the outcome of this behavior, he may still be subjected to ruinous civil litigation on the grounds that his actions constitute gross negligence. Ideally as you say there would be consequences for his license to practice as well. Personally I think "straight to jail" is a step too far, and people really underestimate just how effective the above mentioned steps can be when the goal is to remove someone from mainstream society.

> Personally I think "straight to jail" is a step too far

Texas has laws on the books to throw people in jail for up to six months for first-time DUI.

Measles is diabolically contagious and there's a good chance he will be personally responsible for a death. I think a doctor who knows better and who recklessly endangers lives in the way he's done should be looking at a minimum of a year of his life where he gets to see sunlight for no more than 30 minutes a day.

EA-3167•9mo ago
I can certainly understand that perspective, and I think losing their ability to practice medicine and being sued into penury is adequate, our jails are full enough. On that note however they aren't full of enough DUI convictions, first time or otherwise, since we all know that the first time you get caught is statistically unlikely to be the first time you actually did it.

Personally I'd make the penalties for DUI much MUCH harsher, given how many people are killed each year as a result. Driving is a privilege, not a right, much like practicing medicine.
