I Reverse-Engineered the ATS Algorithm That Filters Resumes

https://www.resumeadapter.com/blog

Hey HN,

I’m a solo developer building ResumeAdapter, a tool that helps job seekers analyze their resumes against job descriptions using AI.

After digging deep into how Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) actually parse, rank, and filter resumes, I wrote a piece that explains how these systems really work (and how they fail many great candidates).

The post covers:

How ATS parses resumes into structured data

Why certain keywords matter way more than others

What formatting breaks parsing (and what’s safe)

How the algorithm scores and filters before a human ever sees your CV

What you can do today to improve your chances—no fluff

Here’s the write-up:

https://www.resumeadapter.com/blog/Inside-ats-algorithm-expl...

Would love to hear your thoughts—especially if you’ve built ATS tech, been burned by it, or worked around it.

HN tends to know how to break stuff, so… feel free to roast it too.
