Very hard to see how the American polity is going to recover from functional vengeance appointments. Biden was attacked by his own side for not weaponising his authority to act in partisan ways, and now the republicans are going full bore above and beyond the expected norms.

The inevitable consequence will be a "root and branch" reprisal when the democrats regain power, and the cycle continues.

I appreciate some doom scrollers will respond the democrats will never get back in, and some more radicalised respondents will say the vengeance wreaked upon the republicans will have been earned. I have no answer to either strawman, I merely observe if we can't rise above this pattern of (ab) use of power, it's a long way down to the bottom.

Those are vastly different abuses of power between now and back then. And those abuses of power need to be prosecuted and people should go to jail. It would be also great if we put more protection against future abuses of power, both similar to the ones right now and ones in the past.

But one can only dream, i highly doubt any of this will happen.

Same person also threatened the New England Journal of Medicine. Thought crime is real.
