Signalgate lessons: If the goal is a culture of security, America's screwed

Cybersecurity is this ephemeral, nebulous sort of thing that can theoretically absorb any quantity of capital you have to throw at it. Sort of like Raytheon or Lockheed, but in a dotcom bubble "Do It On the Web" sort of way.

It's a powerful force with the right kind of cultural and emotional backing, but it's ultimately just theater and posturing. People will always be the weakest link, and no amount of money, policies, processes or punishment will be able to fix that.

cosmicgadget•9mo ago
An imperfect system isn't 'just theatre'.
cosmicgadget•9mo ago
No the lesson is for American voters who like the idea of putting reality stars and pundits in positions of national security. This is how you get bathrooms full of highly classified documents and airstrike times in commercial chat apps.

I don't want to be too glib, and, if this is what it takes for someone to experience some personal investment in American governance, then I'm all for it. But does anyone really think that this is what means that America is screwed?
