At bottom, waking up that early is valuable only as a means of doing first things first, practicing the doing of the unpleasant, and avoiding interruptions. Those goals can be accomplished without mucking up your natural sleeping schedule, which is intimately related to physical and mental health as well as season, daylight, and other environmental factors.

I wake up daily at 0530 and do a mild workout to get the blood flowing. This is followed by a cup of coffee and bagel while reading a book. Hit the shower, make the bed and dress for work and head out the door. Been doing this same routine for years.

If you sleep next to cats or the other way round, you'll 'magically' start waking up at 4:30a ... almost on the dot!
