As a Swedish boss of mine once said "that's not even a fart in space".

It's the right thing to do, and I appreciate it. But it's like trying to stop the Reichstag Fire with a teaspoon of water.

sterlind•9mo ago
Context: Chris Krebs was CISA director in 2020. Trump fired him via tweet after Krebs stated the election was secure. Trump retaliated by issuing an Executive Order against SentinelOne, where Krebs worked, on April 9, stripping all employees of their security clearances and referring Krebs for investigation.

Chris Krebs - this Krebs - isn't the KrebsOnSecurity Krebs - that's Brian Krebs. There are two Krebs in security, but only one KrebsOnSecurity!

I know submission titles ordinarily need to match the source, but the context eluded me here.

I’ve long believed that for a private company to remain independent, it must never solicit business from the government and/or state-owned entities - recent events make it viscerally clear
spiderfarmer•9mo ago
Who wants to do business in a country where the president can go after you because he or any of his lackeys holds a grudge against you? The list gets longer and narrower:

- universities

- law firms

- students

- journalists

- scientists

- green card holders

- individual companies

- individual judges

- individuals

For a country that claims to use the carrot and the stick method to make companies onshore manufacturing, there seems to be way too many of sticks involved.

nipponese•9mo ago
In practice, it probably has been happening for in all past admins, but not in such an obvious and bombastic way.

The optics of the current admin's "everything is a marketing strategy" perspective is just horrible for the future of governance in the US.

spiderfarmer•9mo ago
This is not an "all sides" problem. Stop acting like it's normal in any way.

Trump is a wimp.
