BYD Keeps Delivering on Tesla's Unkept Promises

Crappy site. cloudflare blocks my (old) browser.

Cloudflare =/= the website.

Sounds like a you problem.

Tesla is one of the scammiest companies in existence. I have developed a deep hatred of them over time. They are a classic example of why tech is hated. Tech could have been this absolutely beautiful thing for the world, and instead it became a giant Ponzi scheme. I really wish Tesla was fined heavily for lying about everything for so long.
tim333•9mo ago
I feel a bit more kindly towards Tesla - they did a great job with the model S and Y, which was the world's best selling car until recently. It all seems to have gone off the rails a bit after Musk buying Twitter though.

Meanwhile the BYD guy is focused on cars and batteries rather than all the current Musk weirdness.

> model S and Y

Sure, but that was after years (a decade?) of lying. In every earnings call (including this year) or interview, you hear his guys on the ground saying 'might' and 'hope' when talking about features and time lines and then Musk pushing 'will WILL' like an angry toddler. He simply knows he cannot deliver until <unknown time> as his people tell him, so he lies. I have sympathy for a startup founder, or a ceo behind closed doors, making things more shiny than they are, but this is the richest guy on earth who became and remains that because he just makes stuff up with confidence for his shareholders. Sometimes he makes a model S and Y or spacex, but other times he makes the largest nazi newspaper ever and a cyber truck. Overall it is good he existed: since the politics weirdness, I wonder if we can expect anything else like his earlier successes. I don't think the fables in earnings calls should be allowed though,

tim333•9mo ago
I dunno - it's kind of the job of a ceo to be optimistic about the future and I'm not aware of him lying about stuff that has happened like the Nikola guy who went to jail. Apart from maybe cracking 420 jokes when stoned.

The BYD stuff in the article is more of a problem for them though. The S and Y succeeded because they were the best available. Now if BYD is delivering better and cheaper then that's a issue.
