I'm excited to share something I've been working on: GotAlt.com. It's a tool that helps you find website competitors and alternatives, drawing from data pre-analyzed by AI. I built it because I was tired of struggling to find similar websites for my own projects—the existing options just didn't cut it, so I rolled up my sleeves and made this.
Here's the gist: GotAlt crawls the web and builds a directory. The AI then sorts potential alternatives into four neat categories, aiming to make discovery easier. A key feature I've added is language prioritization: if you search for alternatives to, say, a Greek e-shop, it will first show you results primarily in Greek, followed by relevant sites in other languages.
Full disclosure: This is very much a test launch. The database currently has around 5,000 websites, which means the results won't be as comprehensive or accurate as they will be when it's significantly larger (think 200k+ down the line). More data equals better, deeper results. Consider this an early preview – it works reasonably well for many sites already, but it's still rough around the edges and I've got a list of improvements and features I've discovered along the way that aren't implemented yet.
I'd love your take on it! Does this concept resonate? Could the language feature be useful for you? Any thoughts on how to make it better, keeping in mind its early stage? If you give it a spin, please let me know what you think—especially about the relevance of the results you get right now.
Thanks for taking a look—I'm genuinely looking forward to hearing your feedback!
