I’m guessing the refreshed car will be less desirable than older models. The plausible deniability about when one bought it is removed.
Tesla needs to content itself with being a domestic-only player for a few years. (That or being acquired and rebranded.)

At the current stock price I can't imagine it being acquired. How far would it have to fall before a non-Musk company even considered it?

Not only would no company buy it, hiring a replacement CEO means finding somebody who would be willing to take the blame for the subsequent stock-price collapse once the reality distortion field is shut off.
All we can do is watch the cognitive dissonance build up as the next two quarters continue to suck.
