My person opinion is that Trump and Musk only believe in themselves.

If it appears otherwise, it is simply that --- an appearance presented as part of the ruse in their quest for personal power.

techpineapple•9mo ago
True, but part of believing in yourself is believing that your ideologies are directionally correct. Like I think Musk is much more ideological than Trump, he believes in things, like Mars, but his belief is limited by how in love with himself he is. But I really do think that Musk wants to get to Mars. I really do think he hates Woke.

Trump I think is much less ideological. I think he sort of has this hard on for tarrifs he's always had from his time in business, but I don't know that Trump actually wants to "Make America Great Again". MAGA is just a way for Trump to get people to love him and stay in power.

techpineapple•9mo ago
It always seemed like a weird marriage to me, and at the onset of Trump's administration, there were just too many people promising too many things. All of the different things the Trump administration were going to do were in direct conflict with eachother. And I think sometimes in the early days of that, it's easy to theorize or paint these rosy pictures about how the Religious right and tech right have more in common than they first appear.

But the funny thing about leading, is that while the anticipation is rosier than you'd think, the leading is often even worse than I might imagine. Like it could be that Musk and the administration just didn't quite get along on ideological grounds, or Musk ran out of things to do, or it could be that he was kicked out just because people found him annoying.

A Macbeth kind of marriage in too many ways.

The notion of cultural supremacy resonates with some in Silicon Valley, land of big and targeted data. The social media and crypto bro's have been running essentially unregulated for a long time and sided with Trump on his unconstitutionally extreme libertarianism, as in "I'll do whatever I like and take whatever I want". They definitely agree on that point, and they have not been stopped nor slowed down.
