I'm guessing Tesla will be sued and forced to give everyone auto steer, and if that isn't available, FSD.
In my EV (2025 Hyundai Kona) the lane keeping is split into two functions, described below. Does Autosteer correspond to one or both of them, or does it do more?
The two I've got are "Lane Keeping Assist" (LKA) and "Lane Finding Assist" (LFA).
LKA warns if I'm heading toward crossing the line (unless I'm signaled a lane change with my turn signal) and will provide some steering assistance to fix this.
LFA continuously adjusts the steering to keep centered in the lane.

If I buy a vehicle I want to get what I paid for and be done with it, not have weird promised expansion packs and free trials type situations.

I think consumers just really have no idea what is happening behind the scenes. Especially with CI/CD most consumers only really notice something changed when there is a blatant new bug or a UI change. It would probably blow their mind to know that the software gets updated sometimes dozens of times per day without them even knowing.
My wife is an interesting example. She couldn't really care less about SaaS vs. Whatever, until Canva deploys a nasty bug that wrecks her work, causes her to lose changes, and subsequently deliver late. When I told her that my normal troubleshooting step would be reinstall the previous version and try again, and asked her how she would accomplish that with Canva, I think she finally got it.

With CT it kinda obvious autosteer makes little sense to develop when most people are getting FSD with it. Also FSD needs a price drop and it’s likely biggest lever Tesla has.
