Anger – Why does Linus Torvalds get so mad at code? Why do I?

Because we still care. Imagine if your plumber showed up and started working without turning the main water supply line off? That's the equivalent of what most "software engineers" are doing these days, and then they claim that you're the problem.
rvz•9mo ago
Would you want "vibe coders" submitting patches that they don't understand written by an AI to be accepted by the kernel maintainers?

This is critical software and it is used on billions of computing devices and including cars, airports and even spaceships.

Which this behaviour would make sense, however, this is just unhinged:

> So this patch is utter and absolute garbage, and should be shot in the head and buried very very deep. Please immediately delete it from the whole internet.

fracus•9mo ago
It could be unhinged, but it is certainly not constructive. Its purpose isn't to cause improvement but to cause pain in the victim.
GianFabien•9mo ago
Pain is a great teacher. Most folks won't put their hand on a stove hotplate a second time.

I'm no Linus, but maybe I too should have screamed at team members who repeatedly push sub-standard work. Being a proactive mentor to some folks just doesn't get through.
