This has been well known for at least 6+ months, right?
Miner49er•9mo ago
It was definitely speculated this could happen as soon as he launched the coin, not sure if there was any concrete evidence of it like this.

How much for a Snowden pardon?
1659447091•9mo ago
He spoke up against government overreach and advocated for privacy rights. Unless someone can spin that view of him so the pardon angers the majority of the population, in a way that makes the red hats giddy, I don't see it happening -- for any amount.
toomuchtodo•9mo ago
In this operating environment, under the right circumstances, I think it's entirely possible. Reality is suspended somewhat (not hyperbole imho). You just have to get the old man's ear and be ready to go from funding to pardon signing fast. If laws currently don't matter, that's opportunity. Social engineering, as old as time. Bad people will do bad things with this time window, but maybe we can do some good.

(i identify as chaotic good, your mileage and mental model may vary, it's okay to be naughty for the right reasons)

All someone has to do is sit him down and make a half logical argument that involves how it'll make him look good.

The dude literally pardoned a criminal white supremacist because someone managed to talk to him about it. This is right after he said he was going to be tough on crime. His stances are meaningless.

It's long been known that the last person to talk to Trump on a matter usually sways his actions. It was a huge issue in his first term that most of his cabinet complained about.

If the alleged pricing offered by the office Rudy Giuliani to John Kiriakou hasn't changed, it was $2 megadollars.

The Executive branch is doing corruption in plain sight and many people are just shrugging, whether indifferently or helplessly. Frequently, people get more angry with those pointing out the corruption than they do about the corruption itself.
chneu•9mo ago
Republicans have been screaming for nearly 20 years that EVERYONE is corrupt, so it isn't a big deal if they're corrupt in public.

The shocking part is that a huge segment of Americans not only agree with this, but are perfectly fine with it because they think their side will be responsible.

This is old news. The coin jumped 20% when this was announced.

It's easy to become fatigued by the amount of grift in this administration, but it's worth taking a moment every once in awhile how immediate the impeachment proceedings would be if Obama/Biden attempted anything even approaching a fraction of one of these scams.

The US is in this situation because the governmental minority has no strong legal options, and the majority supports this type of grift or thinks that it is a means to an end (e.g. tax cuts).

chneu•9mo ago
Imagine if Biden or Obama accepted a literal airplane from Qatar and they immediately said it was their personal plane they planned to use once they left office.

The right would lose their minds.

Remember Hillary's emails? They don't seem to care about that signal thing.
