The Big 3 the last couple of years have been on a massive binge hiring developers. The reason is they are moving from accessory manufacturers writing all the cars software to the manufacturer.

In the EV era they realized they needed to be in charge of cars entire software stack to compete against Tesla and the Chinese. This is a pretty big hit in the Detroit area for developers, especially if GM and Stellantis follow Ford.
