HBO Max is coming back – Warner Bros. Discovery is renaming its service, again

I always thought they ditched the HBO brand for Max because of the porn connotation that HBO still holds onto for a lot of people.
mattl•7mo ago
I thought that was Cinemax.
ksec•7mo ago
I am hoping if anyone on HN could explain to me;

1. Why they got rid of the HBO name in the first place?

2. Who's idea was it? And who fought against it.

3. And who gave the final green light?

4. And if they are still working inside the company?

mattl•7mo ago
They got rid of the HBO name because "Max" includes stuff from HBO, Warner Bros. and Discovery (Food Network, History channel, etc)
fullshark•7mo ago
I'm guessing it was because they wanted to be known for offering more than HBO shows + movies. Their marketing focuses on things like live sports, reality shows and news.
