"The people" refers to the voters.

The use of the word idiot contrasts to an earlier post today suggesting Musk is a useful idiot for Trump. The reverse looks like more likely to me. The monarchists (as this article calls them) think the citizens are idiots, and I suspect they find Trump a particularly useful one.

I guess we will find out in about 19 months if they are right on all counts.
