Tariffs don't make you competitive

Did anyone think tariffs would make domestic manufacturing more competitive? It's common knowledge that protectionism has the opposite effect.

This is a way to institute a backdoor a gigantic sales tax at the federal level, nothing more, nothing less. The press is either brain-dead or in an emperor wears no clothes situation for not calling it what it is.

jqpabc123•6h ago
...not calling it what it is.

This has been pointed out repeatedly --- by the press and during the last presidental election.

Who did voters choose to believe? The guy who lied and is still lying about the fact that tariffs are a tax paid by US consumers, not foreign producers.

Who will be the one's hardest hit by this new consumption tax? Many of those who voted for it. Stupid is as stupid does.

jkestner•3h ago
It is hard to tie cause and effect together for people here. Prices may go up months after the tariffs got coverage, they may be slipped in with shrinkflation, they get lost in the noise of your personal budget, etc. My goal here was to provide a different perspective that highlights the problems beyond price.
