One look at this site's home page should show it's a questionable source. But I was puzzled by this:

> Egyptian regular forces did poorly against Yemeni irregulars in the 1960s.

Don't they speak... Arabic in Yemen?

bumbledraven•2h ago
Yes they do, but keep in mind the distinction between "armies" and "irregulars". The first two sentences in the article are:

> Arabic-speaking armies have been generally ineffective in the modern era. Egyptian regular forces did poorly against Yemeni irregulars in the 1960s.

The title of that thing isn't "Arabs always lose", and if you read it closely, you may notice that it doesn't apply to irregular forces like the houthi.

Two regular Arab armies arguably lost against the Houthi: Yemen and Saudi Arabia. You can argue the matter in differnent ways. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saudi-led_intervention_in_the_... goes into much detail.

How they describe themselves, posted without comment:

"The Middle East Forum, a think tank founded in 1994 by Daniel Pipes, promotes American interests in the Middle East and protects Western values from Middle Eastern threats. In the Middle East, we focus on ways to defeat radical Islam; work for Palestinian acceptance of Israel; develop strategies to contain Iran; and deal with advancing anarchy. Domestically, the Forum emphasizes the danger of lawful Islamism; protects the freedoms of anti-Islamist authors, and activists; and works to improve Middle East studies."
