Show HN: I built an Free AI tool to generate pixel art from text descriptions

https://pixelateimage.org
10•RichardFu•6h ago
Hi HN,

I'm excited to share a project I've built: PixelateImage.org.

Instead of being a traditional image editor, this is an *AI-powered tool that generates pixel art directly from your text prompts.* If you've ever wanted to create unique pixel art characters, scenes, or assets for games, art projects, or just for fun, but perhaps lacked the specific artistic skills or time, this might be for you.

My goal was to make generating retro-style or modern pixel art more accessible. You can type in a description (e.g., "a brave knight in a dark forest," "a futuristic cityscape at night," "a cute cat wearing a wizard hat") and the AI will attempt to create a pixel art version of it.

Key aspects:

* *Text-to-Pixel Art:* The core functionality. Describe what you want to see. * *Focus on Pixel Art Style:* Aims to produce images that have that distinct pixelated aesthetic, which can be different from general-purpose AI image generators. * *Simple Interface:* Designed to be straightforward – enter prompt, generate. (You can mention any specific style options or controls if the site has them). * *Use Cases:* Great for indie game developers needing quick assets, digital artists exploring new styles, or anyone nostalgic for pixel graphics.

I'm keen to see what kind of pixel art the HN community can create with it and would greatly appreciate any feedback on the generation quality, usability, or any features you'd like to see. It's still evolving!

Thanks for taking a look!

nice! few observations:

- really like that i can try it out, right on the landing page

- i tried "two ninja turtles fighting" with the default settings, but the result wasn't very pixelated, but def was when I changed the style to "Classic 8-bit"

- would be great to be able to easily share these experiments made on the landing page with an easy link. drive more eyeballs on you too.

- the spinner "Generating your pixel art..." wasn't spinning for me

Very cool! I liked many of the results just trying a few random things

I noticed a few things related to the site itself that make it feel unfinished and basically an incomplete site template:

* The "About us" and "Blog" links are broken.

* The social media links (X, Discord, GitHub) don't actually link anywhere.

* The pricing page is for a different product altogether.
