Indian police trying to read minds of suspects, over neuroscientists' objections

A small side note about submission titles (also in light of the "do not editorialize" guideline): it may not be evident that www pages can have non-matching "titles" and "headings" - and that reflects e.g. on RSS text.

In this case, for example:

Page Title: «Indian police are trying to ‘read minds' of suspects, over neuroscientists' objections»

Heading: «Mind reader? // A forensic technology developed in India sifts brain recordings for clues to a suspect’s guilt or innocence. Many neuroscientists are skeptical, but it is catching on in other countries»

...This could be sometimes confusing for moderation (including community moderation - the "flag" feature): there have been cases of sensationalistic or excessive forms that appeared to be editorializing from the submitter, while they were just literal originals not matching what was immediately found in the page...

The way things are going all you need is an Alex Karp/Sam Altman/marketing-fund raising whiz for this would be in world wide use.

Maybe this is just a Job Ad.

This stuff will get to the point where it works reliably. And to the point where it works reliably and gives you more information than just "guilty knowledge".

... which is why it needs to be banned now. Worldwide. For private use and for government use. By statute, by treaty, by constitutional amendment, by whatever legal vehicle is available. Not allowed, full stop. I don't care how many crimes you could solve; we do not need mind reading loose in the world.

By the way, that includes banning it when people ask to have it used to clear them. There's no way to allow that without the surrounding system adjusting itself to make it suspicious not to ask.

I will grudgingly allow a tightly restricted exception for medical use on locked-in patients.

Govern yourselves accordingly... or wish you had.
