Show HN: I made a SPA to quickly practice/test/improvise my typing

https://www.speedtesttyping.net/

Speed Test your Typing! no obstacles, no questions, no prompts, direct to practice.

There are a 100 typing practice services offered, why did you create this? No Reason, wanted quickly to wake up and practice a few minutes a day before my brain defrosts and procrastination kicks in. I even made a chrome extension plugin to support me do this quickly.

Monetization Model Donation or Non Interruptable Ads [not overdone, maybe just 2 on the side outside the typing space]. Not yet decided, just want to put out there first.

It is beneficial for people who use their pc daily from copywriters to programmers.

Next: probably add a smtp to have player logs delivered to them in mail.

Initially created for myself and friends, so no UI sugar coating as you can see. One of my friends suggested to turn this into a public domain, may help someone.

I hope this is helpful to someone.

PRACTICE!

Neat little tool! I like that it gets out of the way and just lets you type.

A couple of ideas that might be cool to add on:

1. Option to paste in your own text (or pull from a URL?)

2. Stats breakdown by word length or common typos

3. should the accuracy be 100% when nothing has been typed in the input box?

karanveer•8mo ago
Hey thanks! To answer few of your points: 1. If I understand rightly, If you finish the typing, there is an option to share that pops up, then in that it takes your wpm and accuracy and sets a pre written little paragraph. You can share on X or Threads, or directly Copy the text and then paste it [I've provided the copy button].

2. I could, I don't know if it would fit in to its simplicity, I'm trying to set this apart for beginners especially because some other tools are too intimidating to start with.. you could help me understand this feature more. Maybe I can work around this.. This is a good one though, I will have a look into this.

3. Initially it was 0%, but I thought I'd do it 100% and as the user types it remains 100%, until he makes a typo and it drops. Like a minus minus effect from 100, so the type will try to keep it at 100. This is just personal opinion tbh.

Make sense?

I ommited this line in point 1: ..."and then paste it, and you can edit it too where you wish to paste/post."

my apologies.
