Two things that come up in conversation frequently and I didn't see mentioned:
1.) Terrible "My-way-or-the-highway" SDK: you can use your own editor to develop android apps, and do so from most OSes, Apple's SDK is mono-platform, and tied to an editor that feels stuck in the PHP age of the early 2010s
2.) Software licensing: The vision pro is a wonderful tool, already being used for practical applications like this¹, now if Lincoln Electric or CAT wanted to license kyocera to make a rugged version of this that could stand up to welding arcs and water, no dice, wait for the Android folks to catch up. Apple granted licenses to their software in the 90s, and now that they're making their own chips they have even more lock-in control on the ecosystem, they could veritably create an experience-on-module for OEMs to build around, maybe with integrated specialized radios or ports, and pave the way for value-oriented integrators to make budget phones without the explicit apple brand.
I'm sure the latter would never happen but I can dream, can't I
