Ask HN: Work on a human only internet? Are you involved/know of anything?

2•t0lo•8mo ago
Hi HN, it has been patently obvious that the internet isn't going back to the place of free expression it once was for a while now. I'm wondering if there's been any progress made on a new alternative which reduces bots and the id/human verification that facilitates this.

I know of a couple of groups who have implemented their own private "internet"s because of the state of the internet proper. These aren't internet replacements in the larger sense, though, because they're entirely private and will remain so.

The basic problem is that the only way to even come close to ensuring that they are human-friendly (without causing larger problems as a side-effect, anyway) is for them to be invite-only and remain small.
