Are all these changes being made with scientific input and discussion or ... just a political appointee making the call on their own?

We all know the answer to that. These changes are being made against the loud objections of the relevant experts.

What is the "expert" case for giving routine COVID vaccinations to healthy children?
ceejayoz•3h ago
The CDC seems convinced of it?
> Studies with hundreds of thousands of people around the world show that COVID-19 vaccination before and during pregnancy is safe, effective, and beneficial to both the pregnant woman and the baby, according to the CDC's website.

I was more interested in healthy children, but, that's the case for pregnant women? What exactly is the quantified benefit to babies, and how was it measured?
> The risk of stillbirth was significantly lower in the vaccinated cohort by 15% (pooled OR 0·85; 95% CI 0·73–0·99, 66,067 vaccinated vs. 424,624 unvaccinated, I2 = 93·9%).

The policy was released prior to VRBPAC or ACIP meeting, and no input from either. This has an obvious impact on annual formulation, but FDA staff were unable to answer questions from the panel on it ( https://apnews.com/article/fda-vaccines-covid-boosters-kenne... ).
