I've noticed a fair few videos of this type just list a bunch of general reasons to use the thing in any year and then update the title every year to game the algorithm or whatever

I think you're right, that's what this guy is likely doing too.

too many such people on YouTube, ffs.

filtering for good content becomes a bigger job than understanding the good content, which is why we are there in the first place.
