we have all been conditioned not to confront low level crime - time for a change imo

And Jenrick is the man for the job! https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/article/comment/ro...
librasteve•8mo ago
not sure about that - I also have reservations about his builder mate sleaze reputation
fredoralive•8mo ago
He's Shadow Justice Secretary, ie: he's from the opposition party (Conservatives) not the party in power (Labour).
beardyw•8mo ago
Yes, they hate Sadiq Kahn but London is mostly left wing. Just a bit of stirring.

Jenrick is getting into clickbait viral video crap is he?

Let's look at the content sensibly then:

Selective argument: There are 8.9 million people in London. 3.23 million people use the Underground each day. The majority pay fares. Catching all those that don't would cost the taxpayer an incredible sum.

Ignoring staff safety: Jenrick singles out staff for ignoring fare dodgers without asking if that's within their job role, or if they have training, or if it's safe for any given transport staff member to confront a fare dodger at the time of the fare being dodged.

Root cause: Jenrick makes no statements about why fare dodging occurs, other than a vague hand wave at 'societal issues'. Fare dodging is typically a behaviour that arises when segments of society can't afford or access the system being imposed on them. London is one of the most expensive places in the UK to exist in, and still relies on people earning minimum wage and even working less than fulltime to work there. Rising living costs, during Conservative tenure, his tenure, could be mentioned as factors behind any supposed rise in fare dodging.

Unwarranted generalisations: Then he lists other things he thinks are bad and down to his supposed 'societal issues' with no evidence or connection to make extra hand-waving associations between them all. Including...

Massive racism: with the "weird Turkish barbers" comment.

Jenrick is a callous right-wing loon who can't take responsibility for his own part in making it harder for people to live peacefully and economically in the UK. It's hugely hypocritical of him to leave government and then turn around and point out instances of people behaving this way when he helped make an environment that encourages it.
