Personally I think the activist groups I've been in that were the most effective were small (<50 people) and inclined to just break up and reform when conflicts got too much or we knew we were infiltrated by the cops.
If an organization uses Robert's Rules or wants to talk about bylaws I want nothing to do with it.

If an organization that collects $25 a year and claims to do activism on your behalf isn't stealing from you today it will be stealing from you tomorrow or the day after tomorrow thanks to the issues talked about above.
