As someone working in the mental health field, friends constantly ask me "Do I have this?" because someone on TikTok or Insta has intentionally lied or provided misinformation about an illness to further their agenda.
Sometimes that agenda is clout or attention, which is alarming and points to a larger societal issue. The platforms have been ineffective in addressing this. It makes actual mental health awareness more difficult and contributes to the surrounding stymies.
