Since it's clear that police abuse any sort of system they're given access to, we need to outright ban these systems.

Good luck with that. Do you remember last time when a government was held accountable by the people ? Neither do i. /s

Really, no law enforcement agency should have access to anything that's also not available to the general public. It's also 2025, there's zero reason that all records, including searches using these systems aren't public record that are freely available online.

There is constant abuses of these tools and the reason they lobby to keep them secret or make it difficult to get any information any usage is because they know they're abusing their purpose. The agencies that are tasked with oversight are in collusion with them.

At this point 100% transparency on any law enforcement entity that acts within the borders of the US should be demanded. This way it's at least possible to get some oversight.

Right now we're in one of the worst human rights abuses that happen inside the United States since the internment of the Japanese. This is being pushed by the Trump administration under the guise of removing individuals were in the country illegally. What's actually happening is ICE, with the full cooperation of nearly every local law enforcement agency, is sending out a detainer for anyone without regard to any new process or probable cause. This includes picking up US citizens in addition to legal immigrants. They are detaining these people for weeks or months and not even bringing some of them to court for a basic probable cause hearing.

Their games get even worse. I have a friend who is a legal immigrant to this country that has been picked up and detained for over a month, they have lost their job and they have lost their apartments and they have lost in savings that they have. They still have not had their court date yet even hear why they are being detained. Then last night I found out they have been moved to the El Paso deportation center but they have their court date scheduled in Miami on June 3rd. ICE is literally denying due process by shipping them to Texas when they know there is a court date that has required attendance in Miami.

When I spoke to a lawyer they said this is the normal tricks they do now. They will ship someone far away and they will not return them for their court case so there is a summary finding against them and an official deportation order listed. Why my friend got shipped to a deportation facility without an actual deportation order without an actual day in court is ridiculous.

No person conservative or liberal or anywhere in between should be in support of the basic denial of due process that is the foundation of our country. The use of rights cases are slowly making their way through the courts now. They will only continue on for the next many years. Those law enforcement officers who are willfully violating their oath to uphold the Constitution Will likely never be held accountable but we taxpayers will end up paying millions of dollars for those who are being abused.

This is why I am an advocate for the complete and utter removal of qualified immunity. Every law enforcement officer that is participating in this should not be able to say, I was only following orders. These idiots clearly have not studied their history.

> but we taxpayers will end up paying millions of dollars for those who are being abused.

The costs are an issue, for sure. Moreover, U.S. citizens are now, more than ever, regarded as morally deficient for allowing this administration to run amok. I’m a U.S. expat; and to a person, everyone where I live regards U.S. citizens with some mistrust over these abuses. It’s not universally warranted by any means; and most people recognize that a plurality exists. But on average the sentiment is not of unending “winning” as was promised, but of dismay.

Sounds about right: ICE is going to use their "local connections" to gain access to networks like Flock and have their buddies in the local PDs run plates for them, even if Flock 'claims' they don't support this use case.

At what point will it instead be something like a major retailer's employees letting ICE run hits off their accounts? Lowes deployes Flock nationwide.

As an aside, anyone got recommendations for good Sawzall blades?
