Got played. Steven Jay Gould was getting funded by the same people who fund legacy admissions, some of whom would find standardized tests being the only barrier they couldn't surmount. Gould paired this interest with the perpetuation of racist ideas ideas about the intellectual inferiority of some groups in such a way that some members of those groups thought they were getting "anti-racist" help.
