Microsoft: “if you don’t upgrade to Windows 11, you’ll no longer get any more Windows Updates”

The People: “No more Windows Updates? I see this as an absolute win!”

autoexec•8mo ago
It's not a surprise that Windows 11 is a failure. MS has worked hard to make the OS user hostile. Deciding to make a person's operating system into an AI infested ad delivery system that spies on you would have been a hard sell even if people really liked the OS and didn't just tolerate it because they feel they have very little choice and few options. A lot of people actually liked windows XP and a few of us were lucky enough to actually like Win2k and 7. It's all been downhill from there and people are naturally less enthusiastic about signing up for the newest low point.

Windows 7 with the Classic theme (Which made it look like Win2K) was the best Windows.

It's just been downhill ever since. I've avoided most of the annoyances in Win10 by using the Professional edition rather than Home, but from what I've seen, that won't work for me in Win11.

Alas, I'm a gamer, so I'm pretty much stuck with Windows.

I agree, that was the best way to use 7. I moved to 7 from Win2k pro and there were changes I liked and changes I didn't, but it was still a solid OS.

I'm glad that gaming on linux is improving all the time. At this point I'm almost able to move away from windows entirely. There are plenty of games that will be fine on linux/consoles/steamdeck. I'll probably always keep a couple windows systems around running 7 or XP (entirely offline) for older games, but I'll never buy a system with windows 10 or 11 on it and I don't see MS ever abandoning their ways and respecting the users of their software at some point in the future. I expect they'll just keep accelerating as they nosedive.
