He orders barbecue chicken breast — or if he’s feeling a little crazy, the pork chop, well done — plus mashed potatoes with brown gravy and an iceberg lettuce salad with Italian dressing. Though recently, he’s discovered sweet potatoes. Turns out, he likes them.

This guy rules.

burkaman•1d ago
The headline honestly downplays it a little - not only do they go to this restaurant every day but that is their only meal of the day. More than 80% of all the meals they have eaten for 15 years (20 now) have been identical.

Everytime I think of people repeating their eating habits, I think of "the boy who only ate sausage".

The human body is an incredible machine that can deal with all sorts of garbage coming in.

When I was young, a nephew of the same age as me who only ate Mayonnaise at the time. Maybe Mayonnaise on white bread, but that was it. Haven't seen or heard from him since we were young, but I am sure he grew out of it. Kids can be weird.

I live in the czech republic and this is the way the older generation is here. Many older couples will have the same meal on the same day of the week every week. So not the same meal every day, but the same meal every Monday, a different one every Tuesday, etc. It's mind-numbing to me (I'm American) and these people tend to be outrageously inflexible in almost every aspect of their being.
maxglute•1d ago
How big are the portions if this is their one meal? Enough that skipping bread is a problem for waistline? Is this one of those places where you get a 3000 calorie plate and take some stuff home for another meal.
senkora•1d ago
She might be okay but he's a little off from what he probably needs for the day. Maybe they have snacks at home?

        Amber Ale (estimate) - 200
Grilled Shrimp Appetizer (Half) - 180
        Road kill - 760
        House Salad w/ Ranch - 230 + 430
        Baked Potato - 380
        Total - 2180

Grilled Shrimp Appetizer (Half) - 180
        Grilled BBQ Chicken - 300
        Caesar Salad (I couldn't find "Iceberg") w/ Italian - 440 + 410
        Mashed Potatoes w/ Brown Gravy - 260 + 70
        Total - 1660

> Maybe they have s nacks at home?

Very likely. They definitely don't look like they've been calorie-deprived for 15 years.

For myself, this feels like a form of hell or at least purgatory. But for others this probably feels comforting...
