Ask HN: Why are job descriptions and resumes so bad?

4•throwaway123198•11h ago
I don't get it. Why can't we move past this world

- where Job Descriptions aren't REALLY what the hiring manager wants - where Resumes don't REALLY represent your skills - where we can't seem to give candidates feedback on their gaps - where we can't seem to match talent to jobs they're qualified for

LinkedIn didn't really solve it. We're still using terrible interviewing platforms. This is a data problem.

Why is this still unsolved?

Because people like to hide behind curtains. You’re using a throwaway account for expressing a common concern. That’s the problem!

Myself, I try my best to provide feedback to candidates, help others write the job spec, etc. I find that a big percentage of people who are involved in the interview process have no empathy towards others and no interest whatsoever in respecting people’s time.

This can only change if we use our humanity when interacting with each other’s.

The socialization premium is growing and there's no dynamical forcing towards the truth for those.

Or in a word: libertarianism.
