Ask HN: What non-AI projects are you working on?

10•kikki•8mo ago
We must be at critical mass now - I’m pretty tired of every project or business I see being something LLM based. I get it - it’s the new thing - but there’s such little creativity in this space right now it’s just not very interesting? I used to be so excited to read about the startups happening from the community on HN!

What cool projects or startups are people working on that aren’t (at least directly) caught up in the AI hype?

I'm working on a React-to-PDF solution on the fly. The library `react-pdf` already exist but very restrictive. We are building full react to pdf.

I will never use AI.

My latest project is os.90s.dev but it's stuck.

This weekend I plan to recreate love2d but with SDL3 + TypeScript.

I am working on QRID.com - encrypt your data via QR code. Build E2EE applications that encrypt data on the client-side without using passwords. Instead of entering passwords, use QRID app to scan QR code displayed by the E2EE application. Got mobile apps for both iOS and Android. Also developed some cross-platform E2EE applications like Password Manager, E2EE Notes, Vault (encrypts files and directories into .vault file), and some command line tools to encrypt/decrypt files, environment variables. Few other things I am really excited about are in the works.

I’m working on two SaaS projects that both tackle constraints in totally separate industries. Luckily, their underlying structure is similar enough that I’ve been able to split my time and make progress on both in parallel. I can’t really dive into the specifics, just your typical web-based business apps with a few custom-built features designed to address specific workflow requirements. No AI features with these projects.

But surprisingly? What I’ve been most excited about lately is my blog.

And please don't read this as a shameless plug. I just like to encourage others to try if they are thinking about it. A space where I share thoughts about anything and everything. Surprisingly, it’s been a great mental reset and creative boost for my coding work during the day. It’s helped more than I expected.

Good luck to everyone with their projects.
