Show HN: Convert videos to detailed "text and image" articles with TooLongLink

https://toolong.link/v
3•androng•8mo ago
Summary: This tool turns YouTube videos into text with relevant images (like graphs/diagrams), skipping filler and clickbait. Most websites only output text.

The target audience are consumers who want news or information from a video, not entertainment. i.e. videos that should be articles.

Usually when I read the news or browse YouTube, I come across a lot of clickbait and vague titles so I use video-to-text summarizer websites like gemini.google.com. However I would always have this vague feeling of dissatisfaction because the summary was too short with no details. I would read the summary and still not understand the video content. Or sometimes the summary is not available at all because there’s no captions.

if a concept is too new like “electroplating” then I really need to see the images or even a diagram if the video includes one. Otherwise I don’t know what the words mean. To my knowledge there is no summarizer that outputs images so I made one. https://toolong.link/v?w=ehYenzig93s&l=en

Video as a medium is annoying because there isn't always a relevant visual, so as filler, the video creators will use stock footage/b-roll which I find distracting/fake like AI pictures. This website removes filler.

In computer benchmarks the graphs are a lot better at conveying information than words. Example: https://toolong.link/v?w=J4qwuCXyAcU&l=en It’s also less likely for the LLM to hallucinate when it actually watches the video.

Sometimes I just want to read the entire video instead of listening to it because for me, reading it is 2.5 times faster than watching.

The website inputs and outputs in multiple languages.

I wish to share revenue with creators too but first I have to see if there is any interest at all in the first place. If creators are not ok then I will respond individually.

The tech stack is Google Cloud Run, Firestore DB, Google Gemini LLM. When you scrub the YouTube timeline there are little image previews of the video. This is what the LLM sees. If there is interest I will also add scene detection to fill in more useful visuals.

Tentative pricing is $10/month or $3/month if a user Gemini API key is provided (Google gives free keys and free LLM usage in exchange for privacy)

This is awesome! Turning videos into rich "text + image" articles is a game-changer for quick skimming and deeper understanding. Huge time-saver
