Dumb question: what problem does PoE actually solve?
Every router or wireless hotspot that I've seen is always inches away from power socket, or the PoE injection is happening right before the device itself.

I use POE for my outdoor security cameras. They do not have access to a dedicated plug on the outside of my house.

Not an expert, but do prefer PoE.
It’s better in public places because it’s neater and less likely for a randomer to pull the plug/switch it off.
I’m sure there’s other reasons.
For phones on people’s desks it’s nice to have less cables/plugs too.
