Citizens united said money is legitimate political power. Manufacturing in China is cheaper and therefore people who manufacture in China will have more profits. More profits is more legitimate political power. So manufacturing in China means you have more political power in the US.
How the USA is ever going to fix that I don't know, the very things that might change it, are going to be fought against, with almost unlimited funds, by the same entities who benefit from the change staying in place.

I would add that people should, IF ABLE, consider spending more in order to invest in their local community.
The vast majority of the items on my person right now were manufactured domestically, both in terms of number and total overall monetary value. Same goes for household goods and tools.
This almost always means having fewer things, spending more, taking time to research, and possibly delaying gratification which I know is a hard sell (the same way making very slightly less profit is usually an impossible sell to corporations).
But I believe it is worth the effort and expense.
