Got Spare API Credits? Let's Put Them to Good Use

2•DearestZ•8mo ago
I can’t even count how many “free-tier” API keys I’ve seen just sit there and expire without being used. If you’ve signed up for any AI service recently, chances are you’ve got some tokens just sitting around doing nothing. Instead of letting them disappear into thin air, why not pass them on to projects that could really use the boost?

Here’s the idea in a nutshell: a little platform where you can donate limited, read-only sub-keys. These credits get routed to carefully checked non-profits that can’t afford the costs of large language models. And there’s a public dashboard so everyone can see exactly where each request is going. Simple as that—no fancy corporate jargon, just reusing resources for good.

Why should you care? - Unused tokens are basically wasted potential. - Charities get instant access to AI power without having to run big fundraising campaigns. - You can feel like you’re making a difference without spending a dime.

Of course, safety is important. Sub-keys come with strict limits, and everything runs through controlled proxies to make sure things stay within the rules. We’re also talking to cloud providers to ensure everything stays compliant.

Sound like something you’d be into? Throw in a key, suggest a charity, or help us tweak the code. Who knows? The next life-saving hotline message, accessibility caption, or climate-data summary might end up being powered by those tokens you were about to let slip away.

interesting idea but I feel that LLMs is probably the thing they need the least.
