AFAICT, zero of that $80b is currently planned to be invested in OpenAI, but even if it was (and why wouldn't Altman try?), future investment clearly wasn't necessary for OpenAI to reach present revenue.

MS wants to replicate what OpenAI, a different company despite previous investments, already has.
