I've been frustrated by the scattered nature of hackathon information across Europe. As someone passionate about hackathons, I kept missing great events because there wasn't a centralized, up-to-date resource.
So I built Euro Hackathons – what started as a simple README.md (gained 50+ stars) has evolved into a full-stack platform that automatically discovers and tracks hackathons across Europe.
The project now includes: - Live website: https://euro-hackathons.vercel.app - GitHub repo: https://github.com/lorenzopalaia/Euro-Hackathons - Multi-platform notifications (Discord, Telegram, Twitter) - RESTful API for programmatic access
Technical stack: Next.js 15, TypeScript, Supabase backend, with automated deduplication, geographic filtering, and smart date validation. The website features advanced filtering by location, topics (AI, Web3, Crypto), and dates with a modern responsive UI.
What makes this different: - Completely automated discovery (no manual curation) - Multi-platform notification system - European focus with open source API - Real-time updates across all channels
Some patterns I've noticed: AI hackathons dominate (~40% of events), Berlin/London are top cities, and hybrid formats are increasingly popular.
Next features: calendar export, email newsletter, potential expansion to other regions.
The project is open source under MIT license. Would love feedback on the technical architecture or feature ideas!
