thermal protection coating is an interesting topic. I'm unsure what is done industrially but for the hobby person who wants to build a metal furnace, fire bricks and kale wool are your only real options. Fire bricks get expensive but let you reach higher temps, but both are expensive.

I'd be happy to see some affordable TPC for hobbyist that allows us to reach steel melting temperature 3l>3000° (iirc)
