S.L.A.T.E.W.I.P.E.R.

(Sudden Large Accretion To Earth Which Ilaudable Parents Enormously Regret)

No time and excess for Earth gravity wells or exotic weapons, any single or few point of failures. 'It' will likely be spotted on an orbit off the plane of the ecliptic. 'It' might not leave us much time.

A lunar base, many rockets to launch an armada in light gravity and receive a mission en route. Each carrying a heavy mass-payload of Lunar regolith that has been loaded on the Moon, for overwhelming kinetic impact.

No Mars... a space colony too distant to benefit Earth, its residents to die slowly on television? The saddest reality TV show in TWO worlds.

Minimal Earth Science... putting more things in orbit to gaze lovingly at Earth and witness its destruction. It's simply not as important.

Since the mid 80s we have known what ended the dinosaurs.

All nations must build this. It's part of 'growing up'. Until Earth is ready to defend itself on a moment's notice there is little time for 'great science missions' or expensive colonization dreams. Colonize the Moon first.

BONUS: It would save the whole environment!
