Ask HN: What podcasts are you subscribed to?

Doesn't have to be tech related.

I thought you made a mistake with the second, but turns out you didn't. I'll check them out. Thanks

I have... zero subscriptions. When I am interested in a topic I read/chew through all of the source materials I can get my hands on. Then, I engage in dialogue with those around me, or attempt to actively apply what I've learned about the topic at hand. Podcasts feel rote IMO :/

Edit: if I was going to design a search engine it would be wholly different from what Google or Microsoft currently offer. Disappointing results 95% of the time. Edit: No offense to any search engineers out here... I just want to read the original source materials, or sources with provenance/known exegesis/derivation. Also, Bing loves to push Bible verses. Like, all the time. Thats fine if its your jam but, meh... I only need/want to read something once unless I'm doing research for some particular purpose. (Perhaps it is simply a cultural linguistic phenomena emerging from the Western fascination with this particular canonical text.)

99% Invisible. Though I'm a very sporadic listener of podcasts. It usually only ends up being when I'm shoveling snow, so I just look through what's out there to find an episode that sounds interesting. A lot of the 99% Invisible episodes I've listened to have been interesting.

Syntax.fm Lex Friedman—but only to the tech interviews. You have to listen to the carnack one.

Joe Roegan to waste time listening to alien conspiracies.

Found my fitness. Bar none the highest quality longevity and fitness production. It’s pretty heavy so be mentally prepared. Better to listen to on a walk vs gym.

Allin- some of the worst men imaginable but absolutely hilarious and lighting fast brains.

I like podcasts. I can listen as I’m doing other things. I can’t imagine I would sit and watch tv. It’s even harder to imagine sitting and watching for hours with a girlfriend—-when we could be chatting, playing, or living life together.

Data over Dogma (academic study of earlychristianity/bible/religion)

Left, Right & Center (politics)

Rational Security (national security/foreign affairs)

Security Now (computer security)

This Week In Virology (virus/disease)

chistev•7mo ago
I just started the first recommended podcast and it looks promising (Data over dogma).

Are these all you are subscribed to, or are there more? Your tastes might be similar to mine.

dc396•7mo ago
Those are a selection I've subscribed to (and pay for Patreon/TWIT membership for Data over Dogma and Security Now respectively to support the creators). If you like Data over Dogma, another in the academic study of early Christianity/Bible that might be interesting is Biblical Time Machine -- similar content, albeit less 80s and 90s references :).
