This is why when I am looking at the background of the leadership of any organization I am considering joining, I consider it a red flag if the leadership has a consulting background and is now trying to run a company. Even the top consultants from the most prestigious firms simply don't have experience living with the long tail impacts of their own work, and it shows. My worst jobs by far have been the ones led by ex-consultants.
That isn't to say those people don't have talents - they do. But long-term organizational leadership is not one of them.
