In a Streisand Effect-like manner, I now know my new hobby in one of my regular trips to Home Depot. I assume this is for succulent-like plants mostly? Time to do some research
SlowTao•7mo ago
I get there are all manners of ownership under our system, for better or worse, but considering the ownership of plant material is really is a big grey area.

But I do like the middle ground provided here. While I don't think people truly "own" plants, you do have a duty of care to them. A clipping here or there when asked for isn't a bad thing. And this is one area where I think the 'tragedy of the commons' won't be an issue.

This is fascinating, it definitely falls into the basket of ethics, and ethics is different for everyone.

> Proplifting is the act of taking discarded plant material from shops to create new plants.

> discarded plant material

Yeah, not sorry but this is all I need to know: DISCARDED plant material. That means it’s been claimed by the last owners to be defunct and immaterial.

Arguing against that information alone is why we’ve destroyed the planet. Vulture capitalism will be and practically already is the death of us all.
