Is this a real thing? I can somehow understand (forgive me) the kinky/ deviant fantasy behind it- but as an actual "method", stabbing people with a drugged syringe in the middle of a crowd?? Sounds more like mass delusion/ psychosis, from both sides (the perpetrators, who won't ever get any of the "desired effects", and some of the victims, who might just become convinced they've been pricked because they've read it in the news).

Or someone has different info?

You are right to say something like this freaks people out and the media would be happy to publicize it - fear sells.

Consider the dude who went around NYC with a power saw in each hand -- https://nypost.com/2006/07/07/saw-maniac-in-subway-horror-sl...

Knowing people are capable of such things, I would not be surprised to find a syringe full of some nasties going around. The saving grace would be, unless they were a poison or bioweapons expert, it's unlikely they pushed in a particularly deadly dose before being kicked away, needles often push slower than one might think.

All that being said, whereas when most people "snap" in the US we see mass shooting, other weapons can be equally deadly and more horrific. In addition to use of common sense gun bannin- I mean gun control laws, we need also common sense syringe control and common sense handheld powersaw control laws

Here in Argentina there was an urban legend about syringe in the seats of cinemas a long time ago, when there was not Netflix and cinemas were popular ...
