First, it's really hard to make sweeping statements about the curriculum in US high schools because the curriculum is set by the states, and varies from state to state. So those numbers might be accurate in one state (I don't know), but not in the US as a whole.
Second, when I was in high school, we absolutely studied Pol Pot and Stalin, and spend many more hours on them than the article cites. We spent more time on WW2 (not on Hitler specifically, but as part of WW2 studies), yes, but not by that large of a differential.
