I'll hold out some hope that he can do something interesting with the franchise.

I think the best film in the Harry Potter franchise was auteur Alfonso Cuarón. It was far my stylish, and got some incredible performances from the young actors.

I dunno if Villeneuve's slow, thoughtful style will work for the high-energy Bond franchise. (Even Dune managed to be strikingly slow paced.) And maybe he'll just phone it in -- the way talented director Kenneth Branagh does when he gets a Hollywood superhero movie. But I'll hold out some hope that a stylish director can take a stylish action hero some place more... well, stylish than he has been.
