Besides, if you want to build gated communities, that is your business, but this seems like a really odd thing to be promoting as an app... and definitely is not a legit "Show HN", as they are supposed to be something we can actually try, and then discuss with the creator.

You're absolutely right. That said, we believe Hacker News has the kind of community we’d be excited to bring onboard - early adopters who can experience the value and then invite their network. Always open to more feedback.
