I agree with you about the price of this being just bonkers. But for someone who's life passion is cars it can be seen as reasonable. Or, somewhat reasonable.

The same way that someone spending a bonkers amount of money on a computer might be seen as insane to a person who thinks that a calculator is the only type of computer they'll ever need (back in the day).

We all have our passions and categories we might over-spend on.... audiophiles come to mind as well. I can't ever tell a difference between the expensive stuff and the cheap stuff.
